John Long’s short stories have been widely anthologized and translated into many languages. His books – ranging from literary fiction to instructional manuals - have sold over two-million copies. He's won the Grand Prize (2010) at the Banff Book and Film Festival, was the 2008 recipient of the Literary Award from the American Alpine Club, their highest honor, and has won dozens of other awards (mostly for short form fiction) with fancy names and little to no lucre so nobody much cares nor remembers, including the author.
His large format book, The Stonemasters: California Climbing in the 1970s, was released in October, 2009, and is currently featured in the MoMA, the Museum of Modern Art. Yosemite: The Vertical Evolution, another large format book, is due out in October, 2010.
The Big Juice, companion to The Big Drop, Long’s seminal big wave surfing book of 2000, is due out in July, 2011. Stone Nudes, a hardback, black and white art photo book (photography by seminal action and fashion shooter, Dean Fidelman) with essays, was released to international critical acclaim in Oct. 2010. Long is currently working on several large format projects, including Glam Utopia, and Sand in My Hair: Surf Culture so help me God.
